, maryland. northern jefferson county in west virginia, and southern berkley county in west virginia. take you to the live radar here, show you where we're talking about on the storms. notice in the upper right-hand corner of your screen here we're zooming in to the panhandle of west virginia. this is the cell that we're watching very, very carefully right in here. right here just up to the north sides of charles town, west virginia, when i put this little circle on here where you can see the red touching the green, that's where red winds are going towards and away touching one another. as a result this is the area right in here, just to the north of charles town, west virginia, where there is a potential radar-indicated tornado on the ground at this point in time. this storm is traveling to the northeast at 40 miles per hour. so i'll put a storm track on it for you here so you can sort of see the towns that are in the line of fire, as you were. as we go up to the northeast, at about 40 miles per hour, we're going to be able to see that this storm is headed up into washington county, south

is happening in northe virginia on roads. >> water main break at tysons corner. sarah simmons is live. >> reporter: it's a 20-inch water main break. this happened at about 3:00 this morning. the water is shut off. and you can see the massive crater left behind. this is 123 norbound between international drive and the beltway. at this point theyare still trying to figure out if the road is safe. they are hoping they can get one lane open on the northbound side, otherwise this will be a while. the road has buckled. they say it could be eight pl hours or maybe even all day or possibly more to get the road fixed and driveable once again. v-dot is telling us this was due to a construction crew overnight that was working here on a hot lane project and they were boring underneath the surface to install piping for the project and that is when the break occurred. now falls church water authority have been out here as well. they shut off the water and are saying there are a few outages and mostly in tysons corner. you might have water but at a low pressure. it will be a traffic nightmare. 123 s

to route 29 in centreville and here at 50 over to 123. north of the beltway in virginia, no issues on the inner loop from braddock to 66 right now. everything is moving well. moving to the beltway in maryland, we have a disabled vehicle to watch for. it is on the outer loop ramp from route 50. it is blocking the ramp there and here no problems. we are starting to see a delay from university over to georgia. moving our graphics. route 4, route 5, 301, a little volume starting to build out here but no incidents to report and finally if you are heading in to the district, no problems. suitland parkway and south capital street. everything is clear in to the district. >> at the top of the hour, a story that is new at 6:00 here on 9 news now. mystery over the taped beating of a university of maryland student. you have seen the video of the student attacked by police last month. the the university is calling for an inquiry in to a another recording that has a 90 minute gap. it was subpoenaed by the victim's attorney. four police officers are on suspension pending an investigation. >>> tod

in west virginia, rescuers at the upper big branch mine are waiting to resume their mission. their effort is on hold tonight while crews vent dangerous air from the mine. four miners are trapped underground still. officials don't know if they are dead or alive. 25 miners died in monday's blast. two injured workers are in the hospital. steve handelsman is live in raleigh county with the latest for us. steve? >> reporter: hi, jim. thank you. it was a big setback. not that it matters much to the four miners. everybody here says they still believe that they still imagine that on monday as this explosion went off and killed 25 guys, it was a big explosion, these four guys who were shielded from the blast and used their training and they knew where these shelters were and think maybe three guys are in one-and-one guy is in another and if that's right, these guys would be okay. their shelters are strong. most importantly, they have air to breathe. since they are designed for more than a dozen guys, there's plenty of air for these guys to survive through the weekend. but the disappointment comes

of concern for us. another area of storms is moving out of virginia into western maryland near frederick county. that want thunderstorm cell gave indications there might be a tornado in the cloud. a tornado warning is in effect for parts of western frederick county and parts of washington county for the next 20 minutes or so. let me show you where the warnings and watches are in effect. there's a watch for thunderstorms over the entire area. the tornado watch is in red. we will talk more about the forecast for this evening in the week ahead coming up. >>> the same system responsible for our bad weather caused havoc down south after tornadoes yesterday. this is all that is left of the church in choctaw, mississippi. huge trees were uprooted. many fell on homes and other buildings. one man describes how he and his girlfriend barely escaped. >> the bricks and debris were flying. i was watching it all. i was trying to hold her down. i told them i could not feel my legs. everything was on top of me. >> according to the national weather service, the super cell produced at least two tornadoes.
